The UK wealth management industry’s leading key private client reference guide and website is looking to recruit a part-time (potentially full-time) journalist to its young, dynamic and expanding team, within one of the country’s top media companies.
Attributes
Must be ambitious, adaptable, self-motivated and personable (would work well within a young and dynamic media team), articulate, intellectually curious and extremely well-organised. Ability to work to tight deadlines under pressure is a must.
Journalistic skills, including excellent spoken and written English, keen attention to detail and a confident phone manner are essential. Experience dealing with senior figures and any familiarity with legal/financial issues are also desirable.
Responsibilities
The researcher is both a writer responsible for individual categories, and an organiser of the Spear’s 500 more generally.
Tasks include but not limited to:
Preliminary research, including peer reviews: sending out nominations out to all contacts in our database, actively chasing submissions, compiling and assessing the results. This is a large task that must be carried out by the new researcher throughout tenure for ALL of the Spear’s 500-specific categories.
Writing: The new researcher will also be solely responsible for producing Indices including, but not limited to: Aviation, Business Angels, Education, Family Office Services, Insurance, Security, Wine and Yachts.
These accounted for 132 profiles in our 2016 edition. Each involved liaison with press teams at other firms, introducing people to Spear’s and the Index process, conducting interviews with each subject; writing original and interesting 125-word profiles in the Spear’s style for each (plus large extensions bought later), and building meaningful editorial relationships.
This is a real opportunity for a hungry and driven individual to render the phenomenon of the UK’s private client industries journalistically, writing for the Spear’s 500 and Spear’s magazine.
